Startup Institute gave me the orientation to the tech scene that I needed in order to feel knowledgeable and welcome. Transitioning from the arts, I had never worked with HubSpot, hadn’t heard of Salesforce, and didn’t really know what UX meant. Now I feel like I’m in the know and can hold my own in conversations with other techies.

Our Values

Passion

Passion

At the core of what we do is passion—for our students and for the mission of helping them find jobs they love. We feel this in our hearts and minds, and know that it is a both a privilege and a great responsibility to do what we do. We care about doing something bigger than ourselves.

Grit

Grit

When faced with challenges, we meet them head on, with transparency, and a commitment to hustle, to make fast decisions, to do more with less, to row in the same direction, and to go above and beyond—because it’s worth it. Everyone pitches in with authenticity and a sense of humor. We don’t just mail it in.

Community

Community

We are dedicated to building a community of people in and out of our company, connecting staff, students, alumni, instructors, and partners. We are committed to enriching our networks, paying it forward, supporting each other like crazy, expanding the diversity and growth of our ecosystems, and building relationships that are like family.

Learning

Learning

Learning is more than our business or industry. It’s how we open doors to new possibilities in the world. We believe in trying new things, building our sense of empathy, listening hard to feedback, measuring our progress, and getting better every day at what we do.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical student like?

Our students are creative go-getters, builders, and team-players, eager to solve tough problems and make their dents in the world. Some of our students have very clear goals from the moment they walk through our doors, others are still working through those, but all of our students are determined to make an impact on something larger than themselves. We're also committed to making the startup community more diverse. Since our inaugural class in 2012, 41% of Startup Institute students have been female and 38% students of color.

Will I have a job when I finish the program?

We don't make promises about when you will get a job, but our numbers are very promising. A handful of our students accept job offers before completing the program, and 92% have new jobs within 100 days of completing the program, and 76% within 60 days. While we do not schedule interviews on your behalf, we do support your job search efforts—during and post-program—through mentor sessions and warm introductions to the people you need to know to get to the interview.
