Diane Hessan Appointed CEO of Startup Institute
This article first appeared on Director of Finance. Startup Institute Has Today Announced That it Has Appointed Diane Hessan as CEO.
She will be responsible for expanding the organisation internationally and evolving the experience for students, alumni networks and partner companies.
Hessan joins Startup Institute with a long track record as a founder and entrepreneur. Her most recent success was Communispace, the consumer collaboration agency, which she founded in 1999. She was CEO for 14 years, leading a worldwide team of more than 500 employees.
She currently serves as Chairman of Communispace and will remain in this position. Prior to founding Communispace, Hessan spent more than a decade as a leader in the corporate education space at The Forum Corp.
Widely recognized as a leader in the global entrepreneurial community, Hessan and has won numerous accolades, such as: the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Northeast); the Mass High-Tech All-Star Award; and the Asper Award for Global Entrepreneurship from Brandeis.
She was also third on The Boston Globe’s Top Women in Technology List and in November she will be inducted into Babson College's Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs.
Hessan is a board member of numerous organizations, including Tufts University, Panera Bread, Governor Deval Patrick’s Council on Innovation, the Advertising Research Foundation, Horizons for Homeless Children and The Boston Philharmonic.
Co-Founder Aaron O’Hearn, the incumbent CEO, will be moving to the UK to drive Startup Institute’s London operations.
