Save the Date: NewCo Celebrates Boston April 27

We’re delighted to announce that Startup Institute will open its doors to festival-goers for NewCo Boston’s debut on April 27th. NewCo isn’t a business conference. There are no soporific keynote speech programs, no stuffy conference rooms. This is a festival of innovation—intended to get you out of your office and exploring the many progressive companies right here in Boston.

When you sign up to participate in NewCo, you can choose up to five companies that you’re interested in visiting. Then, on April 27th, you’ll spend the day traveling around Boston and speaking to founders and leaders in their offices. You’ll get to have unscripted, genuine conversations with Boston’s top business minds and agents of change, while gaining insight into how some of the hottest companies operate.

NewCo is the passion project of two friends: John Batelle and Brian Monahan. Brian is an award-winning marketing and advertising professional, and John is the co-founding editor of Wired magazine and the founder of The Industry Standard. The two friends launched NewCo in 2012, inspired to help great companies connect and collaborate in a way that was natural and dynamic. They turned the traditional business conference model “inside out” to create a festival that was part networking event, part city tour, and part artist open studio.

As CEO Diane Hessan explained,

NewCo’s mission to ‘identify, celebrate, and connect the engines of positive change in our society,’ couldn’t be more in line with what we are trying to do at Startup Institute. And, with over 500 of our alumni working in Boston’s most innovative companies, it felt only natural that we open our doors to the public so that more people can see how we are training top tech talent.

Hessan will be holding a session for employers and aspiring tech employees, Hiring for Culture Fit: How to Find Top Talent & How to Be the Talent, at 10:30am. In the session she’ll discuss the characteristics of successful employees in rapidly growing companies. Employers will learn how to screen for culture fit, while those looking to break into the tech industry will gain insight into the best ways to appeal to hiring managers.

We’re looking forward to what is sure to be a wonderful celebration of all the great things happening in Boston, and the incredible people who are the force behind that change. The festival starts at 8:30am on Wednesday, April 27, and ends with an after party at GEM Lounge. Get your festival pass before they're out!

NewCo is brought to us by Mass Technology Leadership Council (MassTLC), the region’s leading technology association and the premier network for tech executives, entrepreneurs, investors and policy leaders.
