Startup Institute Announces Partnership with Winterline Global Education Gap Year

Startup Institute announces its partnership with Winterline Global Education, a skills-based, international gap year program that offers nine-month, semester, and summer programs to recent high school graduates and college students. Students currently enrolled in Winterline’s nine-month Global Skills Program will spend nine days at Startup Institute’s Boston campus to take part in a series of sessions focused on learning about the business of high-growth companies, startup culture, crafting a career theme, and interview skills. Says Vice President and Boston Program Director, Allan Telio,

Partnering with Winterline was a natural extension of our own mission—both of our organizations are united in trying to solve what is a serious practical skills gap in the workforce. We look forward to giving Winterline students a taste of what we teach to career-changers in our full-time program.

According to a recent New York Times article, the outlook for college graduates “is not what it once was: students are saddled by unprecedented levels of debt and few leave campus with the skills employers value most.” Startup Institute sees the effects of this in its incoming students, where many have been working for 5-10 years in a job that was either never the right fit for them, or where they find they no longer have the right skills to get to the next level in their career.

As Chief Curriculum Officer, Connie Steward says,

The market is telling us it needs education alternatives that are relevant, agile, and that have real-world applications. Employers say a mere 11% of college grads are actually job-ready—this is why programs like Winterline and Startup Institute exist.

Boston entrepreneur and Winterline founder Jeet Singh adds,

Winterline partners with best-of-class organizations worldwide that provide specialized skills and knowledge for our gap-year students. Startup Institute was an ideal choice for enhancing our business and startup skill offerings, because of its focus on real-life companies and skills.

Sessions will be jointly taught by Startup Institute faculty, Winterline Founder, Jeet Singh from RedStar, and Teri Riddle of The Crossland Group from May 4th - May 14th.
