Why did you attend Startup Institute?
Is there one experience that stands out for you from your time at SI?
Winning the Ideahack! Not only were we proud of that achievement, but my group was able to work more cohesively on our partner project because of it.
What makes SI different than other educational experiences or classes you’ve taken?
I went to the University of Michigan for both undergrad and grad school and am a proud Wolverine who would never deny those were valuable learning experiences, but SIC was a far more intense experience with greater self-reflection about my talents and areas I need to improve. Most importantly, SIC encourages you to define what you want out of life and then gives you the tools to find a career that fits into that vision. Universities just aren't set up that way.
What is one thing you’d want people to know about SI?
You have to come in open-minded and ready to work your butt off. I came in with my mind set on learning a certain thing, but I ended up adjusting my path based on guidance from the staff and my peers. Similarly, I started SIC thinking, "It can't be tougher than grad school was." Yes, it was. Eight weeks flies by and you won't believe how much you've done in that short time.
