Hey! My name is Ben Feingersh, and I'm a proud member of the Startup Institute class of 2014 in Boston. I graduated from Northeastern with a dual degree in computer science and psychology. As an undergrad, I had the amazing opportunity to work with several companies in Boston, as a mobile developer at WHERE and GoodTwo, and after graduation spent the next year working at Merrill Communications in e-discovery client services.

I love everything local and mobile, and want to work with your data.

What skills do you bring to a project team?

I have a background in development, particularly mobile. I have worked with Java, Lisp, Python, SQL, XML, and JSON. I have experience with Excel and some with R as well.

As an undergraduate, I took courses in statistics as well as psychology lab courses.

What do your hobbies say about you?

Rock climbing is a great physical challenge, but it is a mental one as well. It is similar to most other workouts out there in that you can only perform as long as you have the strength to do so, but bouldering routes are like a puzzle; two people can look at the same problem and come up with wildly different paths that both lead to success.

I'm a big gamer. For the past few years, I have played competitive Magic: The Gathering -- a card game best described as the middle ground between chess and poker, but with more dragons. People who perform well in competitive play make the most of the information they have available in making decisions.

What is the biggest risk you've ever taken?

I would say that joining SIB was one of, if not the biggest risk I have ever taken. I had a comfortable position working in client services for a company doing litigation support and hosting services. I loved the team I worked with but I did not feel engaged with my work. I applied to SIB to give myself an edge in finding interesting, challenging work at an exciting company.

Despite the high short-term cost, I am very excited and looking forward to seeing how the long-term investment pays off!
