Julie has spent 10 years working at higher education institutions across the country--spending time in Illinois, Kansas and Wisconsin. Along the way, she acquired a B.A. in English and an M.S. Ed. in Higher Education Administration with a focus on Adult Development, Assessment and Organizational Psychology.
While working in university administration, Julie spent half her time working on student development and the other half supporting and using technology to create better systems and workflows. By being a bridge between IT and administrative staff, Julie had the unique experience of optimally customizing systems for users as well as back-end developers.

You left a career in Higher Education for the Startup Institute! Why?
“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”― Steve Jobs
I loved working with students and helping them achieve their goals and dreams. But the landscape of Higher Education began to change and the pieces I loved were becoming smaller and smaller. I serendipitously happened upon Steve Job's quote and realized something needed to change. Shortly after, I learned about the Startup Institute, and am excited to leverage my experience in adult development, higher education and technology into a new career.
