Why did you attend Startup Institute?
In short, to completely reinvent myself. Not just professionally but also to develop my interpersonal skills that are essential to joining a startup.
Is there one experience that stands out for you from your time at SI?
Pitching our ideas as a team to our partner startup Mobile X Labs. They took our ideas into serious consideration and ultimately hired a few of our teammates to carry those ideas on to fruition.
What makes SI different than other educational experiences or classes you’ve taken?
The difference between online courses and SI is vast. Though some online sites did help me prepare to join the inaugural Chicago class, what is gained from attending the StartUp Institute has been positively life-changing. SI is exceptional for providing a multi-track, i.e. Product & Design, Web Development, Technical Marketing and Sales & Account Management, framework that promotes team-building that better emulates real-world startups. Also, the caliber of speakers that visit SI during the course is unparalleled and like me may just be the person you need to meet to land your first job!
What is one thing you’d want people to know about SI? (or, if you like this better: What is one thing that surprised you about SI?)
You may think you want to attend SI to just learn code or the like but what you truly gain is entry into a startup family. The connections and bonds you make here will open doors for you that you never knew existed within the greater startup community.
